There are so many “out there” beauty tricks on the web. I read quite a few beauty blogs and have seen articles on beauty hacks where I think, “Seriously?! There is no way that works”. One day I came across a beauty hack that seemed so simple- so out there- I had to try it!
This past month my skin really broke out, and I have no idea why. I use great cleansers and moisturizers. I even use a topical benzoyl peroxide. Nothing was working to clear up this outbreak of acne. Then, in a last ditch attempt to clear up my skin (since nothing was working), I remembered I read somewhere on the web to apply this substance to your acne and it’s supposed to work.
THE CRAZY BEAUTY TRICK
I added toothpaste to my acne. Yes, toothpaste. And IT WORKED!!
Now, it didn’t magically make my acne disappear, but it greatly reduced the redness of them. I also thought my acne looked noticeably smaller as well (although I can’t prove this). I applied it the next night and the results were the same- the toothpaste was clearing up my acne.
RESEARCH TO EXPLAIN THIS TRICK
I did some research and learned that toothpaste has ingredients such as baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, essential oils, and triclosan. These ingredients usually dry out acne, but dermatologists state that toothpaste has never been proven to be better then the conventional methods of treating acne.
Who would have thought?! I only did this for a few nights and then stopped (reverting back to the conventional methods of clearing up acne), but I am still so surprised by the results. I now have an emergency beauty hack for when the next inconvenient breakout occurs!
DISCLAIMER: I have extremely insensitive skin, so nothing ever irritates it. If you have sensitive skin toothpaste may cause redness, irritation, and peeling. By writing this post I am not recommending anyone tries this out.
